The Blue Nile Health Project (BNHP) (1980-1990) initiated by the world Health organization (WHO) and the Sudanese government in 1980, has successfully addressed the problem of water-borne diseases such Malaria ,Bilharzias and diarrhea diseases in the Sudan. Before its termination, the PNHP reduced the prevalence of malaria to less than 1% and that of Schistosomiasis to below 10%. Blue Nile Research &Training Institute(1993-2006) , established as model of partnership between academic institution (University OF Gezira) ,Federal Ministry of Health ,Gezira stat Ministry of Health and WHO (MOU). (2007-to data)the institute been upgraded to the Blue Nile National Institute For Communicable Diseases (BNNICD).
